Welcome. This is a website for French and Americans with an interest in the Cold War Era in the communities of Déols and Châteauroux in France, especially from 1951 to 1967, when many of us lived together when the U.S. Air Force and NATO had military bases in the area. If you are looking for someone or information, this is the place to be.
This website was created in spring 2013 with a mission to gather, document, and preserve the history and people of the Cold War Era in Châteauroux-Déols , starting first with all the workers (both military and civilians) at La Martinerie and Déols Air Depot. We are creating a database of all of these workers via this site, and your help is needed. If you know of someone who worked at the bases, French or American, please see if they have been added to the database.
If you are a dependent of a worker, please add yourself and your family information to the site. If you are a descendant of a worker or dependent, please add yourself and your family information.
Americans and French meet regularly together in Déols and Châteauroux to share stories, tour sites, visit with the schools to share information, and to work on joint projects that document and preserve the importance of the work that was accomplished during the Cold War.
Please join us and do your part to preserve our history together.
